Helicon fans:
Here is the story with the weather vs. the Winter Solstice concerts.
Goucher College has closed.
We are presenting ONE concert TODAY at
the Stony Run Friends Meeting House at 3:30PM.
(Stony Run Friends Meeting House
5116 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21210)
-IF you cannot make it, you may choose to donate your ticket cost.
You will be issued a tax-deductible receipt from Boxwood, a registered 501(c)3. This will help us to offset the many expenses incurred in producing the concert. Many of you have already graciously offered to do so.
-OR you may use your ticket for the 25th Winter Solstice Concert in December of 2010. If you chose this option, please keep your ticket—we do also have records of who purchased tickets.
-Because the concert will take place regardless of the weather,
and the artists have traveled from France and Canada to be here,
we would prefer that you choose from the above three options rather than seek a refund.
In our 24 years of performing, we have never postponed or canceled any
show. (We once were towed over 100 miles across Ohio in a foot of snow
and still made our concert with a broken down van. Remarkably, there
was a full house waiting for us. Not that we would expect anyone to
go to all that trouble to see a concert but our intent is that the
show will go on no matter what.) On a practical level, all our
rather substantial expenses for the concert have been paid (hall
rental, sound crew, advertising etc). Further, Chris lives in Nova
Scotia and Robin in France. We all have other commitments on Sunday
and scatter to the winds after the concerts.
I hope you can make it today! We really appreciate your support.
Finally, we are exploring doing a Summer Solstice concert in late June.
We will send out another email as soon as we know more.
Chris, Robin and Ken
"Helicon's brand of hypnotic
Celtic-inspired dance rhythms makes a heady brew when mixed with this
wide-ranging set of carols and winter songs. That Helicon's stylized
treatment can tame and blend this eclectic set is a tribute to the
solid musicianship of this talented trio. Their warm, understated take
on the season will be a welcome relief for many from the droning
familiarity of popular Christmas carols..."
--Home Theater HI FI and The Albuquerque Alibi (December 2000)
The 24th Annual Winter Solstice Reunion Concert reunites Ken Kolodner
(hammered dulcimer, fiddle), Robin Bullock (piano, guitar, cittern,
mandolin and fiddle) and Chris Norman (wooden flutes, tin whistle,
small pipes, piano) of Helicon for their annual holiday celebration. On
December 19, 2009, Helicon will perform two shows, at 3:30 and at
8:00, brining to life seasonal Scottish, Irish, French Canadian,
Appalachian and other world music. This year's venue provides an
intimate setting at Kraushaar Auditorium on the campus of Goucher
College, Towson MD.
